Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)
Contained within the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations are changes to how cookies and similar technologies may be used for storing information on a user’s equipment such as their computer or mobile device. These rules changed on 26 May 2011 and come into full force as UK law on 26 May 2012.
The CILIP website will obtain functional consent from visitors to www.cilip.org.uk. This will be achieved by prominently displaying information about cookies and how they are used on the website homepage and visitors will be considered to have given consent to the use of these cookies by navigating away from the homepage. Every page will contain a link to the same information to cater for visitors that come to the website via bookmarks or other links.
CILIP does not use any cookies that collect, store or use any personal information about you as an individual.
We use the following third party cookies on the CILIP website:
- Google Analytics - to track website usage and how visitors navigate within the site.
- ShareThis - to provide social sharing buttons on our web pages.
- Disqus - to provide a comment system on our blog posts.
- Scorecard Research - to provides marketing/analytics tracking, installed as part of the Disqus module.
The rest are session cookies used to link pages together as you move around the site, without which you would have to log into every member only page, because the cookies wouldn’t be there to move your identity from page to page.
